The Central Government on Tuesday instructed banks to use indelible ink to prevent people from making more than the permissible number of times cash withdrawal from bank counters. As people in large numbers continue queuing up outside banks, Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das announced that the banks will put indelible ink on people withdrawing money to prevent multiple withdrawals. "Same people who are coming repeatedly are responsible for long queues and therefore, banks will put indelible ink on people withdrawing money. Indelible ink mark concept will start from today in major cities," Das said. At the moment, the daily withdrawal limit from ATMs is Rs 2,500, and exchange of old notes from bank counters is Rs 4,500. This apart, the upper limit for weekly withdrawal from bank accounts stands at Rs 24,000.
