Unions stage protest at Jantar Mantar opposing citizenship to Hindu Bangladeshi migrants

Opposing the Centre’s decision to provide citizenship to Hindu Bangladeshis, who migrated from Bangladesh post-1971, Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Parishad, Karbi students union, Indigenous People's Front of Tripura and all Manipur students union staged protest at Jantar Mantar inj New Delhi on Saturday.

The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, proposes citizenship for migrant religious minorities (non-Muslims) from three countries — Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The protesters said indigenous people are already facing the threat of becoming a minority in some of North-Eastern state of India because of unabated influx of Bangladeshi migrants in the recent years.
