6.4 magnitude earthquake hits in Himalayan region of Tibet

The U.S. Geological Survey said, an earthquake of magnitude 6.2 was felt in the Himalayan region of Tibet today. It said, the earthquake was at about 300 kilometers northwest of the city of Qamdo.

The region, situated on the remote Qinghai-Tibetan plateau, is largely inhabited by ethnic Tibetans.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage from the quake. Further details are awaited.
