Series of blasts hit Assam on Independence Day Suspected ULFA (I) militants exploded five bombs in various parts of Upper Assam on Monday as the state celebrated the 70th Independence Day. The first blast took place near Indira Gandhi School at Laipuli on the outskirts of Tinsukia town at 7.15 am. This was followed by another explosion in line no.6 of Badlabhata tea estate in Doomdooma area where the third IED was also set off at Masuwa locality, they said. The fourth one exploded at Gamtumati in Philobari area where ULFA-I militants on August 12 night had shot dead two persons and injured six others in indiscriminate firing at Bahbon village. The fifth one exploded at Lakuwa in Sivasagar district. There was no casualty or injury in any of the explosions.
