NEW DELHI: Even on its day of Independence, Pakistan seemed to be able to justify its existence only vis-a-vis India.
Pakistan celebrated its Independence Day today, August 14, by unprovoked firing + on Indian military posts in Jammu, with its high commissioner calling for
"independence" in Kashmir while sitting in Delhi + , and by distributing sweets to India's Border Security Force personnel on the Wagah border.
Pakistan's army started unprovoked firing on Indian military posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in the border district of Poonch at around 3 am. Security analysts are calling the firing a major ceasefire violation. Today's firing, after a lull of over four months, saw the Pakistan Army firing heavy mortar, small arms and automatic weapon fire at two places in the Shahpu Kandi area of Poonch.
