The people of Assam are all set to celebrate Magh Bihu, the harvest festival, across the State on Tuesday. The celebrations would begin with uruka tomorrow, when people would gather at a common place and organise community feasts. Tuesday morning will mark the burning of the traditional meji, a structure made of bamboo, straw, etc, and bhelaghar, a makeshift hut. People would seek blessings from the elderly and visit friends and relatives to exchange Bihu greetings and also relish varieties of Bihu delicacies. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, meanwhile, has extended his greetings to the people of Assam on the occasion of Magh Bihu and Tusu Puja. In a message, Gogoi hoped that the festive spirit would strengthen the traditional bond of unity and brotherhood among all sections of people and help maintain peace and harmony dispeling all the negativities.
